“Since U Been Gone” was written specifically for her after Clive Davis and RCA Records asked Max Martin for a rock-influenced pop hit.

The song was initially offered to P!nk and then to Hilary Duff, but both passed on it. Kelly loved it — but she pushed for a bigger rock edge, adding gritty guitars and powerful vocals.
